Count On Me Lyric Video

Motion graphics lyric video created in After Effects using Adobe Illustrator to assist with the designs.

Brief

The goal of this project was to demonstrate our gained skills in Adobe After Effects through a longer length video. I love film, media, and music, which led to my decision to create a lyric video. Count on Me by Bruno Mars ended up being the song of choice because the lyrics paint a clear picture in the viewer’s eyes.

Storyboarding

After I chose the song, the next step was to start storyboarding. I created this motion piece using vector graphics and each frame had to be thought out in advance to assist this process. This step was incredibly beneficial because it provided a path for me to follow.

Animatic

Following the storyboard curation, I created animatics of the video. This consists of taking images of the storyboard that I created and adding music and simple effects in. This step helps the designer gain a sense of timing. Plus, when you see a basic idea in action, it can provide a strong opportunity for reflection and feedback. There ended up being some differences between my animatic and final design because I realized some of my concepts were not as dynamic as I originally predicted.

Final Design

A more in-depth look at the colors chosen and design of the screens in the video. The yellow color was chosen due to its connection with Bruno Mars’ motif at the time. I then liked the idea of adding orange and blue because they fit the scenes I had in mind and create a nice contrast.
